In this version of Hasami Shogi the marbles are moved in straight lines along rows and columns (like a rook at chess). The objective is to make a straight line (which can be diagonal) of five marbles in the central area of the board . If a marble is adjacent to an opponent's marble it can use a move to jump over the opponent, but the opponent is not removed from the board.
