There are a number of books with more information about the games and puzzles we make. Some are readily available and others harder to find. A few of them are out of print but may be available from libraries or second-hand book dealers.

The Oxford History of Board Games by David Parlett (1999) is probably the most complete survey of games available. The index of games has about 600 entries, but not all games are described in detail. |

Board and Table Games from many Civilisations by R C Bell (1960's) is two books in one volume. They cover a wide variety of games with information on history, rules, playing pieces and boards. |

Strategy Games by Reg Sheppard and John Wilkinson (1996) is a book of "50 games & puzzles to stimulate mathematical thinking". It contains rules and boards for playing many of the games we sell plus several novel games. |

Puzzles Old and New by Jerry Slocum and Jack Botermans (1986) is the first in a series looking at a variety of puzzles and their variants. It does not attempt to be an encyclopedia of puzzles, but does include many well known and not so well known puzzles. There are details of how to make some of the puzzles. New Book of Puzzles by Jerry Slocum and Jack Botermans (1992) is the second in the series looking a variety of puzzles. It is different in style to the first book with fewer puzzles and emphasis on making particular puzzles. Available from Jerry Slocum |

The Book of Ingenious and Diabolical Puzzles by Jerry Slocum and Jack Botermans (1994) is the third in the series looking at a variety of puzzles and their variants. It is similar in style to the first book, but without details of making the puzzles. Hoffmann's Puzzles Old & New edited by LE Hordern (1993) is revised version of the original 1893 book by Professor Louis Hoffmann. It is an encyclopedia of all the puzzles known at this time. Available from The Puzzle Museum |

Mancala Board Games by Alexander de Voogt (1997) looks at the family of games that includes Wari and Bao. The emphasis is on the boards and cultural significance of the games rather than the rules and strategy. |

The Complete Mancala Games Book by Larry Russ (1999) is a comprehensive guide to the rules of many variants of the family of games which includes Wari and Bao. Almost 150 variants are indexed. |

Sliding Piece Puzzles by L E Hordern (1986) is a compendium of the family of puzzles which includes Reunion, Escape, Float and Titanic. It includes history of the puzzles and a full set of solutions. Out of Print |

Polyonimoes by Solomon W Golomb (1994) is an updated version of the 1965 classic about Pentominoes and related puzzles including Hexiamonds, 3D Pentominoes and Soma Cube. The book is quite mathematical, but contains a wealth of information. |

Pentominoes by Jon Millington (1997) contains a variety of two and three dimensional puzzles using pentominoes. The puzzles range from quite easy to very difficult, but solutions are provided. At about £3 an excellent companion to a set of pentominoes. |

Tangrams by Jon Millington (1997) contains over a hundred of pictures to make with a set of tangrams. The pictures will appeal particularly to children and solutions are provided. At about £3 an excellent first book to accompany a set of Tangrams. |

Tangram by Joost Elffers (1973) and updated version by Joost Elffers & Michael Schuyt (1999) contains over 1,600 pictures to make with a set of tangrams (and solutions). The classic book of tangram puzzles. |
